Today we decided to have a better look at Kununurra.
On the way we stopped at The Grotto...it's a huge gorge..
.in the wet season it would have a waterfall....pretty impressive.
We were keen to see what agriculture was happening as a result of the Ord Dam irrigation.
The crop Dave is standing next to is chia....it looks a fair bit like basil..
it's supposed to be very high in omega 3, etc...a very lush crop.
There were also mango trees, corn, pawpaws, sugar cane, pumpkins, melons...
One producer we spoke to grows mainly to get the seeds. He said that all the grosse lisse tomato seeds in Aus. come from his farm...he also grew niger for seeds.
This is part of the view of Kununurra from Kelly's Knob Lookout.
Later in the afternoon we went out to have a look at the rodeo that is on all this weekend.
We saw some of the bull-riding and saddled buck jumping.
First thing this morning Dave went off looking for gouldians. He found these in front of the shire council chambers where they have the sprinklers on each morning. So far we've seen gouldians, star finches, zebbies, double bars and long tails...all in the wild!
