We drove down to the port this morning to see where the iron ore is loaded to go to China. The road trains bring the ore up from near the Argyle gold mine, about 2 hours south of here, and dump it down near the docks. A big loader then dumps it onto a conveyor belt, and it goes down to the jetty where it goes onto a barge. The barges then go out to a ship to be taken to China.
Late this afternoon, we went up to the lookout to watch the sunset. The views were stunning. There was some smoke in the distance which added to the effect when the sun set.
This morning we saw heaps of star finches in a shrub outside the crocodile farm. We also saw zebra finches along the side of the road....it's great to see them in the wild, rather than in aviaries.
Today Anthony went to Sydney with his school principal and a woman who wrote a song about Sawtell school. The education dept ran a competition for a school song, and Sawtell were the regional winners for their area. When they went to Sydney, they were awarded the overall state winners....quite an achievement. To see the video with the song, go to Sawtell public school's site....click on the Our School tab, then on Sawtell Family Song. The children sang the song, and Anthony did the video. They won some pretty good prizes for their school too.
