Day 24...Zebra Rock Mine

Left beautiful Victoria River and headed further west...went through Timber Creek, and not far from the WA border, turned off onto a very dusty dirt road, that lead to the Zebra Rock Mine.
It was only about 10km, but it felt like about 50km!

After going through a couple of gates, we arrived at the site. The actual mine site is not currently available to see, but we saw lots of examples of the rock, and had an interesting talk about it, at the shop at the camping ground.
We decided to book in for a night. It was a pretty interesting spot. there's a dry creek bed running through the middle where you can go prospecting for the zebra rocks. I don't know if any of our rocks are zebra rocks, but they sure came in some interesting colours.
Late in the afternoon, firewood was brought around to anyone who wanted to sit by a fire in the evening, It was a beautiful evening, very peaceful, with a full moon...however it got quite cold during the night.
Dave took some nice shots of double bar and longtail finches in the park...it's great to see them in the wild. They come down first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon for a drink from the garden where the sprinklers have been on.

  1. Love this shot of the gorgeous little longtails. It must be soo special to see them in the wild... I've had a friendly maggie hanging around my front porch and he collects the contents of my vacuum cleaner to make his nest nice and soft (I'm pleased to know someone appreciates my hairy dogs!) haha xx
